Our first "child"

Most anyone who knows us knows that we love our dog, Lorelai. She came into our lives April 5, 2009 and was the center of attention everyday since. Everyone wondered how she would do when the baby arrived and many have asked how she's done since Charis' arrival. After over 2 months, I'm ready to answer that question.

In the beginning I think Lorelai was in denial about the whole thing. With my mom and her dog Sookie here, she was plenty distracted. Now her new reality is setting in and she is protesting. How, you might ask? By jumping on every table even if there is nothing on it. By constantly jumping on the counters even though she's never actually gotten anything. When I sit on the floor to play with Charis or exercise, Lorelai is literally sitting on top of me until I pet her for a while. The past couple of days he has been going into Charis' closet and pulling out anything she can find. It's not like we changed anything in there-I really just think she is protesting her new position and doing anything she can to get the old one back.

One day Matthew left his sweaty running jacket on the chair in his office and she seriously laid on it ALL day! She didn't get up from this chair from 9 am - about 4:30 pm (time for Dad come home soon, gotta be ready!)

When he travels, she sits by the front door from about 5 pm - 8 pm just waiting for him to come home :(

To top it all off: Saturday night Matthew and I went to bed around 10 pm (in my mind it was 11 because of the time change). Around 2 am Lorelai started pawing at the gate and crying to come in. See, she had started sleeping in the guest bedroom with Matthew while Charis was nursing so much during the night. Matthew got up once to make sure she was okay and went back to sleep. Lorelai kept at this off and on for 2 hours. Charis meanwhile slept until 5:20 am! I love that we got the baby to sleep through the night but the dog protested.  Fortunately she left us alone last night.

We decided this weekend that we need to do puppy training with her again so that she will get some positive attention and some treats. I'll let you know how this works out for us.
