Elsie's Ears {part 1}
Failed. What? She failed her hearing test in the hospital. They told us she probably just had fluid or vernix in them and that it would clear up. We went to the audiologist at 1 month for another check. Failed. We weren't worried. We knew God made her and that again, there was probably still stuff in her ears. I did no research. I had no reason to believe anything was wrong.At two months, we went back to the audiology office for another test. Failed. The doctor did another test checking for fluid/blockages. Clear. We then waited to see the ENT (ear, nose, & throat doc). He confirmed that these tests meant there was some level of hearing loss. He did an exam and briefly explained the process from here on out.
Sedation. Bleh. More tests. Bleh. When there is an indication of hearing loss, they want to ensure that the other organs developing at the same time in the womb are in fact functioning properly. So, we have been to the hospital for an EKG. Passed! We went to an ophthalmologist to get her retinas checked out. Passed! We are waiting on blood work checking on her thyroid.
The sedated test (ABR)is scheduled for September 30. She has to go in at 8am after 4 hours fasting. No problem. This girl sleeps through the night. Praise God! The test can take up to four hours. It should determine the level of hearing loss and hopefully the cause. There is no cure for hearing loss. Only miracles of healing which we pray for every day. There are a myriad of hearing aids. The last resort is cochlear implants. We are learning a new language and taking it one step at a time.
Nothing has stopped our precious girl from being so happy! She amazes me everyday.
Prayers given to us:
Isa. 41:10. "Fear not for I am with you, be not dismayed for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, yea I will hold you with my righteous right hand."
Proverbs 18:10. The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.
Psalms 84:11 For the Lord God is our sun and our shield.
He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.
Matthew 11:15, 13:9 . . . He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
James 5:14-15 Is anyone among you sick? then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up,

Here's one more scripture to bring you comfort:
ReplyDeleteThe Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31 NIV)
Thank you Amanda! We so appreciate the prayers and encouragement.
