Our first "child"

Most anyone who knows us knows that we love our dog, Lorelai. She came into our lives April 5, 2009 and was the center of attention everyday since. Everyone wondered how she would do when the baby arrived and many have asked how she's done since Charis' arrival. After over 2 months, I'm ready to answer that question.

In the beginning I think Lorelai was in denial about the whole thing. With my mom and her dog Sookie here, she was plenty distracted. Now her new reality is setting in and she is protesting. How, you might ask? By jumping on every table even if there is nothing on it. By constantly jumping on the counters even though she's never actually gotten anything. When I sit on the floor to play with Charis or exercise, Lorelai is literally sitting on top of me until I pet her for a while. The past couple of days he has been going into Charis' closet and pulling out anything she can find. It's not like we changed anything in there-I really just think she is protesting her new position and doing anything she can to get the old one back.

One day Matthew left his sweaty running jacket on the chair in his office and she seriously laid on it ALL day! She didn't get up from this chair from 9 am - about 4:30 pm (time for Dad come home soon, gotta be ready!)

When he travels, she sits by the front door from about 5 pm - 8 pm just waiting for him to come home :(

To top it all off: Saturday night Matthew and I went to bed around 10 pm (in my mind it was 11 because of the time change). Around 2 am Lorelai started pawing at the gate and crying to come in. See, she had started sleeping in the guest bedroom with Matthew while Charis was nursing so much during the night. Matthew got up once to make sure she was okay and went back to sleep. Lorelai kept at this off and on for 2 hours. Charis meanwhile slept until 5:20 am! I love that we got the baby to sleep through the night but the dog protested.  Fortunately she left us alone last night.

We decided this weekend that we need to do puppy training with her again so that she will get some positive attention and some treats. I'll let you know how this works out for us.

Happy Sunday (on Tuesday)

I started this post on Sunday and for some reason deleted the whole thing. So we took Charis to the church nursery for the first time. Everything went great! Our friend Jazmin was in there so I knew she'd be in great hands. When we came back to get her, she was asleep in Jazmin's arms. It was nice to be able to listen to the sermon for the first time since she was born. This weekend was great for another reason as well! We started putting her in her crib to sleep at night, having Matthew give her the 10 pm feeding and she slept until 5 three nights in a row!!! I'm still waking up at 3 of course just out of habit so that will have to end soon. Now we are still working on getting her to nap longer than 45 minutes without waking up.

I thought she looked so cute in this adorable dress Sunday. She likes her fingers!

The babe and her dog

The past couple of weeks have been "fun" with Matthew traveling a lot. I have made it a priority to get out of the house almost every day to make sure that I don't go stir crazy or forget what an adult conversation is. It has really gone well as Charis and I have gotten a pretty good routine down and she is sleeping longer lengths at night, hallelujah! We are heading North this afternoon to visit the Springfield folks so hopefully everything goes well. I will post pics next week. I can't believe she is 8 weeks old. Our neighbors just had their baby girl and it is amazing how tiny she is and how fast they grow. I know I know, it's a good thing.

Is this normal?

I find myself asking this question a lot lately and am so thankful to have a smart phone since my baby spends an hour nursing at each feeding (normal?) making my trips to the computer few and far between.

Is it normal that I now wake up before she does wondering if it's feeding time? She's on her way to sleeping through the night so I'm hoping this goes away.

Is the number of times she poops and it's color normal? Enough said.

I am looking forward to our doctor appointment this Friday so I can ask these and some of my other questions.

Now for a some photos. I love it when she smiles in her sleep!

She makes some hilarious faces and one night I captured a few:

"Look at me hold my head up Mom, I'm getting so strong!"
